Aims
• To develop participant teachers’ reading skills in the context of reading about teaching & learning
• To develop participant teachers’ speaking skills in the context of making a short oral presentation on a teaching/learning theme
• To encourage learner autonomy and to enable areas, selected by participant teachers, to be discussed in input sessions.
Outline
Part 1: Reading & preparation (about 1 hr)
Your tutor will suggest an article for you to read on a teaching topic.
1. Read through the article and make notes on key points. You could use a highlighter pen. You may want to write these points on the board or make a Microsoft Powerpoint slide.
2. Write 3 questions about the article that you could ask your colleagues to create discussion. These questions could be about, e.g.:
• Have they had any similar experiences to those described in the article?
• What do they think about.....? (an idea in the article)
• What suggestions have they got for..........? (an idea in the article)
Part 2: Oral Presentation (about 10-12 mins)
1. Present the main ideas in the article to your colleagues using your notes. Note you may do this in small groups of 3-5 colleagues. (5 mins).
2. Ask your questions to get your colleagues to discuss the ideas (7-10 mins)
Note: The oral presentation is not assessed, but you should put a copy of the article, and your notes + questions in your portfolio.
