2. MICROTEACHING A GRAMMAR LESSON
Aims of Assignment
• to plan a lesson to focus on & present a grammar structure
• to plan the ‘language analysis’ part of a lesson plan (see MEN TDP Lesson plan)
• to describe the procedure section (see MEN TDP Lesson plan) in sufficient detail for an observer to follow
• to ‘micro-teach’ (peer-teach) part of the lesson
• to use language that is simple , clear and appropriate to task and audience
Outline of the assignment:
In this assignment you are required to plan a grammar lesson and ‘micro-teach’ it to your colleagues. You should prepare a presentation section and an activity for students to practice in groups or pairs. The lesson should last 50 mins. You plan in pairs with a partner and you will ‘teach’ the lesson together, but you will each need to make a copy of the lesson plan and lesson materials. The assignment consists of two parts:
Part 1: to hand in
• A lesson plan – see example below:
o Page 1: Lesson plan front page: aims, standard and context (see coursebook pages 32, 33)
o Page 2: skills and vocabulary (see coursebook page 34)
o Page 3: language analysis and anticipated problems (see coursebook page 35)
o Page 4: Lesson Procedure (see coursebook page 36)
• Materials you will use (e.g. pictures, cards for pairwork etc.)
Part 2: Micro-teaching the grammar lesson (50 mins)
Assessment
This assignment is ungraded but it is a course requirement.
Put in your portfolio
• Lesson plan (4 pages of MEN TDP lesson plan)
• Materials you will use (e.g. worksheet, pictures, cards for pairwork etc.)
• Group feedback summary notes (after micro-teaching)

Aims
• To prepare the procedure section of a lesson plan:
1. To describe the procedure of a lesson activity in sufficient detail for an observer to follow
2. To ‘think through’ an activity in detail, exactly what the students will do in the activity and how to prepare them
• To plan the instructions you will give using English
• To ‘micro-teach’ (peer-teach) a speaking activity that you could use with their students
